This year’s historic election, which will send the nation’s first African-American president to the White House and many new legislators to the House and Senate, means new implications for long-term care providers and the people they serve. 11/17/2008 - On Aug. 13, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published the
final regulation mandating sprinklers in all nursing homes. The regulation went
into effect
Oct. 14, and all nursing homes must be fully
sprinklered by
Aug. 13, 2013.

11/17/2008 - We applaud Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) for releasing a health care proposal that includes long-term care and that is in such close alignment with AAHSA's Five Big Ideas to transform aging services. We admire that his initiative addresses quality, finance, transitions, workforce, and technology in its efforts to determine how our health care system can become more rational and accessible to the millions of Americans who do not now have coverage.
